General Awareness preparation tips for IBPS PO mains
Overview
The IBPS conducts examinations every year
for the recruitment of IBPS PO position. There are limited vacancies with thousands of
candidates applying for this post. IBPS PO Main exam for the year 2018 is
scheduled for 18 November. This exam is conducted in three stages mainly:

Majority of the competitive government jobs have a
general awareness section in any one phase of their examination. This section
is also introduced in the Mains exam of the IBPS PO exam. This section is introduced to evaluate
the candidates on their current affairs knowledge of international and national
events and basic banking and general knowledge of the candidates. General Awareness section
consists of 40 questions carrying one mark each.
The time allocated to answer this section is 35 minutes.
Candidates have an idea of what questions can be
expected from other sections but this general awareness section is very tricky
as this section has vast topic coverage.
Here the candidates either know the answers or not.

General awareness Section Syllabus
This section in IBPS PO Syllabus Mains can be classified into
three subtopics. There are as given below:
1.
Current Affairs Section: In this category, around 20 to 25 questions are asked. They include subtopics like sports, national
and international issues and events, awards, budgets,
science, technology, and other topics related to the current affairs of the country.
2.
Banking Awareness Section: In this category, around 12 to 15 questions are expected all
relating to banking. The topics may
include abbreviations related to banking, banking
institutes of India, bank history, banking rules and regulations, and various bank-related
topics.
3.
Static General Knowledge Section: In this category, we can
expect 8-10 questions. This category is considered to have the least weightage between the other
two categories. Topics include geography, history, discoveries, inventions, sports, Book
author’s name, and many such general topics.
Preparation Tips to Crack General Awareness
Section In Mains
In IBPS exam, no stage of the exam is considered to
be taken lightly. These exams have sectional cutoffs and
the candidates are required to score minimum marks in each section to qualify
to the next round. This section is usually tricky and we can expect the unexpected
questions as it is a wide ocean of syllabus
and questions cannot be predicted.

Candidates have to make note of the frequently asked questions in this
section by referring to the previous year's question papers

Candidates need to make it a habit to watch NEWS channels on daily basis. This improves their knowledge on the
current affairs and latest events happening.
It also helps them to crack the interview as well

Regularly take quizzes online which helps the candidate to evaluate their
performances and also improve in areas of improvement

Read many magazines related to general knowledge and newspapers as well.
Note down the important points which would make
revision easy at the end moment

Note down all the important dates for all events in past and present
6.
Take many mock tests that would boost your confidence and helps you in
managing time.
7.
On regular basis, take time to
revise on all the topics you have covered. This helps in analyzing and evaluating
yourself on the portions covered and portions to be covered

Go through various GK books and previous year question papers to have an
idea of what can be expected and what type of questions are asked for each
section in general awareness. For static
GK section, it is advisable to practice
only previous years papers as the
weightage of this section is small compared to the other two.
To conclude,
to crack this section one must be a good
reader and must memorize things.
Candidates must have all the answers at their fingertip
before the examinations conducted. Candidates
need to manage time well and answer the questions quickly. Clearing this
section is compulsory for moving to next round.
